Summer Days Ahead!

We’re looking forward to an exciting summer here at the Library.  Our staff has been busy planning a great Summer Reading Club, with this year’s theme being “A Universe of Stories.”  We’ve got a lot of fun programs and performances planned, and have revamped our Reading Logs to give kids a wide variety of ways to earn prizes – we’re looking forward to the kickoff event on June 28!

As part of this year’s theme, we have a special treat – we have partnered with NASA under their ARES (Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science) initiative to obtain discs with real lunar samples to show our participants.  That’s right – the moon itself (or pieces of it, anyway) is coming to Garrett County!

And we certainly don’t want the adults to be left out – the Adult Summer Reading Club will be returning once again this year.  Participants can enter for a drawing to win great prizes – each of our locations will hold their own drawing, and there will be a grand prize for one lucky patron!

We’ve got new technology for you as well!  3D printers are now available at the Kitzmiller and Grantsville branches for patrons to use – come by and see what they can do, and bring your ideas and prototypes to life!

I wanted to give a special shout-out here as well to the kids and teachers at Crellin Elementary, as well as to Principal Dana McCauley and Liz Simmons, the school’s wonderful librarian.  The school year may be ending, but we had a great partnership throughout and are looking forward to hosting the kids again next year!

Finally, don’t forget that we’re always looking for library lovers to join our Friends of the Library – it’s your chance to help shape our programs and services!  The Friends meet the second Wednesday of each month at 5:30 at the Main Library, and they’re currently looking over a very exciting new proposal…

See you soon at the Library!
