 | We are resuming our series of programs for HomeSchoolers every month during the school year, beginning this September at the Oakland and Accident locations. HomeSchoolers meet in the Oakland Library from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. on the first and third Friday of each month. The Accident program is held on the third Thursday of each month from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Programs are free and open to all ages and the public. No registration is required for most programs, but a courtesy call to the library is appreciated.
The Oakland program begins on Friday, September 3 with a presentation about geocaching/orienteering by Adventure Sports Center International (ASCI).
The series in Accident begins on Thursday, September 16, with geocaching/orienteering by Justin Carrico from the Discovery Center. Note that this first program in Accident will be from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. as opposed to the regular time.

 | A book discussion group will be held at the Grantsville Library the second Saturday of every month beginning September 11, 2010 and continuing through June 11, 2011. The group will meet from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. It is open to anyone who likes reading and discussing various books in different genres. The moderator is author, freelance writer, and online writing instructor Sandra Miller-Louden. She can be contacted with any questions at 814-662-1314 or 412-477-4299.

 | The Ruth Enlow Library invites you along on a bus trip with Schrock Tour & Charter to the 10th Annual National Book Festival in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, September 25. The trip is open to the public at a cost of $50 person, or $30 with a student ID, payable in full at the time of registration and non-refundable. The registration deadline is Saturday, September 11. To register, contact Georgie Dawson, administrative assistant at the Ruth Enlow Library, at 301-334-3996, ext. 106, and provide name, address, phone number, and number of reservations.
The chartered bus will depart the Oakland town parking lot at 6:30 a.m. the morning of September 25 and stop for pick-up at Delano’s Furniture Store (old IGA) in Accident at 7:00 a.m. The bus will leave Washington, D.C. that same day at 5:30 p.m. It will stop at Sideling Hill Rest Area en route to the festival and at the Golden Corral in Frederick for dinner on the return trip. Restrooms, TV, and VCR are available on the bus. No glass containers are permitted.
Celebrating “a decade of words and wonder,” the Book Festival is organized and sponsored by the Library of Congress and is free and open to the public. It will be held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. between 3rd and 7th streets from 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and features many of the nation’s best-known authors and illustrators.
The chartered bus trip affords the public the opportunity of traveling to D. C. without the hassle of driving and parking, and enjoying not only the festival, but other attractions as well, such as the Smithsonian, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Washington Monument. Public transportation via the Metro is available at the Smithsonian Station. |
