CANCELED--An hour of stories, crafts, and fun for preschoolers age 3-5, held each Wednesday from 10:30am to 11:30am, except in June and August.  Children's Hour teaches creative expression, social skills, listening comprehension, and the foundations of reading through letter and number recognition, and vocabulary building.
Story Tails  3:30 PM - 4:30 PM  Children Services

This week we will have Maggie here with us for StoryTails: Children Reading to Dogs.  This drop-in program is designed to help children develop confidence in reading.  Each child reads to a dog for about 15 minutes with the dog's handler sitting nearby to give reading assistance if necessary.  All dogs are certified by Therapy Dogs International. At the end of the reading session, each child will receive a bookmark with a picture of the dog that they read to.  This program provides a great opportunity for kids who need to work on reading skills and would like the opportunity to read to an animal.

The Teen Readers and Writers Group for people ages 13--18 will meet at the Oakland library on the first Monday of each month from 5:00 until 7:30. The Accident Adult Book Club meets on the second Wednesday of each month.  Newcomers are welcome.  The book selected for January is The Age of Miracles by Karen Walker.       Regular members have been put on a hold list for copies of this book.  If you would like to be added to the list, let us know (see contact info below).

At our December meeting, a second book was added for January: Arcadia by Lauren Groff (if you have time and can get a copy).
