StoryTails  4:30 PM - 6:30 PM  Children Services
Branch: Grantsville 

The Grantsville Library will hold StoryTails: Children Reading to Dogs on the first and third Mondays of each month from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

This program is designed to help children develop confidence in reading. Each child reads to a dog for 15 – 20 minutes, with the dog’s handler sitting nearby to give reading assistance if necessary. All dogs are certified by Therapy Dogs International. No registration is required, and parents are asked to remain at the library while their child is reading. The program will not take place on days when the Garrett County schools are closed or dismissed early due to inclement weather.

Branch: Oakland Meeting Room
A children's program designed especially for babies and toddlers (children birth to 36 months).  LapSit is a special program that incorporates singing, rhymes, stories, and other activities that will entertain and stimulate children’s language skills.  A parent or caregiver must stay with the child for the program.

 Children's Hour is a program for preschoolers ages 3-5, held on Wednesdays from 10:30am to 11:30am, September through May.  Children's Hour promotes creative expression, social skills, listening comprehension, nutrition, and school readiness and includes STEM activities, stories, games, experiments, music and crafts.

Come join us for books, crafts and other activities that build early literacy skills and a love of reading! 

Story Time will not take place on days that the Garrett County School system closes due to inclement weather. In the event of a delay in the school system, Story Time will take place as usual.

If school is cancelled due to weather, then Story Hour will be cancelled. If there is a weather delay, Story Hour will meet as scheduled.

Young Readers' Book Club  4:00 PM - 5:00 PM  Children Services

Young Readers Book Club is a book discussion group for readers age nine through twelve.  The group meets on the third Tuesday of each month from September through November and January through May.
 
You must be pre-registered to attend this program.
 
Students will be provided with books that they will read and discuss with the group.  They will also enjoy a craft, game, or activity and a snack based upon themes relevant to the particular book selected for the program.  If interested please contact Julie Iden at 301-334-3996 ext. 104.

Our Homeschool Group typically meets on the third Thursday of the month September- November and January- May. Our volunteer presenters offer a wide variety of enrichment programs for home school children and their families. Pre-registration is required.

Venessa Stacy, genealogy specialist at the Oakland branch, will present Genealogy for Kids Thurs. Jan. 21, 2016 from 1-2PM.

Lego Club  6:00 PM - 7:00 PM  Children Services
Branch: Oakland Meeting Room
  Lego Club is designed for children ages 4-12 and features free building time with lots of building bricks. Children are encouraged to build a creation based on a new theme each month. Staff may photograph and/or display completed builds in the library. Lego Club typically meets on the fourth Friday of the month from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. and registration is required.
