Story Tails  3:30 PM - 4:30 PM  Children's/Teens
Branch: Accident Accident
This month we will have Corey here with us for StoryTails: Children Reading to Dogs. This drop-in program is designed to help children develop confidence in reading.  Each child reads to a dog for about 15 minutes with the dog's handler sitting nearby to give reading assistance if necessary.  All dogs are certified by Therapy Dogs International. At the end of the reading session, each child will receive a bookmark with a picture of the dog that they read to.  This program provides a great opportunity for kids who need to work on reading skills and would like the opportunity to read to an animal.

For more information please contact Crystal at (301)746-8792 or crystal@relib.net

HomeSchoolers @ the Library  2:30 PM - 3:30 PM  Children's/Teens
Branch: Oakland Meeting Room

HomeSchoolers @ the Library typically meets on the first Friday of the month September- November and January- May. Our volunteer presenters offer a wide variety of enrichment programs for home school children and their families. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited.

Lisa Greenhouse from the Enoch Pratt Free Library will present this month's "Build a Fairy House" program.

From Folktales to Tolkien, Children's Literature is aflutter with fairy activity. In this workshop from the Children's Department of the Enoch Pratt Free Library/State Library Resource Center, parents will work alongside their children to construct top-flight fairy accommodations using natural materials. The workshop leader will supply modeling clay which can be shaped by each participant pair into an underlying fairy house structure. Participants will then press materials, such as shells, twigs, and pebbles, into these clay skeletons to create naturalistic facades. Although plenty of materials will be provided, we encourage parents to spend time in advance of the workshop collecting materials from nature with their children. Collecting natural objects with an eye to their potential architectural use is an experience rich with sensory and cognitive rewards.

You may also build your home for a troll or other woodland creature.
