Teen Services Branch: Oakland Meeting Room The Teen Readers and Writers Group for people ages 13--18 will meet at the Oakland library on the first Monday of each month from 5:00 until 7:30. Children Services Branch: Oakland Meeting Room An hour of stories, crafts, and fun for preschoolers age 3-5, held each Wednesday from 10:30am to 11:30am, except in June and August. Children's Hour teaches creative expression, social skills, listening comprehension, and the foundations of reading through letter and number recognition, and vocabulary building.

Birth - Age Eight are welcome to attend with an adult; the focus group is preschoolers age 3-5.Throughout this hour, children will build social, listening, vocabulary, & creative skills as well as letter and number recognition =O)

Children Services Branch: Accident Accident Library This month we will have Maggie here with us for StoryTails: Children Reading to Dogs. This program is designed to help children develop confidence in reading. Each child reads to a dog for 15-20 minutes with the dog's handler sitting nearby to give reading assistance if necessary. All dogs are certified by Therapy Dogs International. At the end of each reading session, each child will receive a bookmark with a picture of the dog that they read to. This program provides a great opportunity for kids who need to work on reading skills and would like the opportunity to read to an animal.

Children's/Teens Branch: Accident Accident Library All home-schooled children and teens are invited to participate in programs and activities at the Accident library on the third Thursday of the month, September through May.
On Dec. 20th, Susan Haydel will give a presentation on the Northwest Coast culture of the Tlingit, Haida, Tsimshian, and Coast Salish nations. While teaching at Potomac State College, through a grant from the National Humanties Council, she got to travel to Alaska and British Columbia for a month, learning from native leaders, artists, and anthropologists.
