LapSit  10:30 AM - 11:00 AM  Children Services
Branch: Oakland Meeting Room
A children's program designed especially for babies and toddlers (children age three and under).  LapSit is a special program that incorporates singing, rhymes, stories, and other activities that will entertain and stimulate children’s language skills.  A parent or caregiver must stay with the child for the program.
Children's Story Hour  11:00 AM - 12:00 PM  Children Services
Branch: Accident Accident Library
Children will enjoy an hour of stories, crafts, & activities on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. This program is geared towards children ages 3-5.  Come join the fun!

Story Hour is held in Accident from September through May.  Please check the calendar, as occasionally we have meetings here instead.

Story Tails  3:30 PM - 4:30 PM  Children Services

This month we will have Maggie and MacKenzie here with us for StoryTails: Children Reading to Dogs.  This drop-in program is designed to help children develop confidence in reading.  Each child reads to a dog for about 15 minutes with the dog's handler sitting nearby to give reading assistance if necessary.  All dogs are certified by Therapy Dogs International. At the end of the reading session, each child will receive a bookmark with a picture of the dog that they read to.  This program provides a great opportunity for kids who need to work on reading skills and would like the opportunity to read to an animal.

This program is designed to provide a space for adults to work on handcrafts and share tips and ideas.  The library provides the Oakland meeting room as the space, and participants bring their own portable projects and, if desired, a brown bag lunch. Examples of portable projects include, but are not limited to, knitting, beadwork, origami, quilting, scrapbooking, drawing, needlework, and crocheting. Participants can attend for the entire three hours or drop in for a short while.

Young Readers Club is a book discussion group for readers age nine through twelve.  The group meets on the third Tuesday of each month from September through November and January through May.
 
You must be pre-registered to attend this program.
 
Students will be provided with books that they will read and discuss with the group.  They will also enjoy a craft, game, or activity and a snack based upon themes relevant to the particular book selected for the program.  If interested please contact Julie Iden at 301-334-3996 ext. 104.
