After School students will celebrate Dr. Seuss by reading stories, making crafts, and playing games. Each student attending will receive a free book. Refreshments will be served.

Read Across America Program  6:00 PM - 7:30 PM  Children Services
Branch: Oakland Meeting Room
The Oakland Library, in partnership with the Overlook Judy Center, is hosting a Dr. Seuss Party for children ages three through eight. Each child attending will receive a free book provided with funding from the Garrett County Education Association and the Friends of Ruth Enlow Library. There will be three activity stations, each with a story and activity based on a Dr. Seuss book, and a closing with refreshments.

A children's program designed especially for babies and toddlers (children age three and under).  LapSit is a special program that incorporates singing, rhymes, stories, and other activities that will entertain and stimulate children’s language skills.  A parent or caregiver must stay with the child for the program.

This week we will have Maggie here with us for StoryTails: Children Reading to Dogs.  This drop-in program is designed to help children develop confidence in reading.  Each child reads to a dog for about 15 minutes with the dog's handler sitting nearby to give reading assistance if necessary.  All dogs are certified by Therapy Dogs International. At the end of the reading session, each child will receive a bookmark with a picture of the dog that they read to.  This program provides a great opportunity for kids who need to work on reading skills and would like the opportunity to read to an animal.

Remember the Food Pyramid?  Well, that is no longer the recommended model for how we should eat.  The new model is called "My Plate," so come learn all about it and why it is recommended for optimal nutrition.  Kristin Spiker of the University of Maryland Extension Service will present this program.
