A children's program designed especially for babies and toddlers (children birth to 36 months).  LapSit is a special program that incorporates singing, rhymes, stories, and other activities that will entertain and stimulate children’s language skills.  A parent or caregiver must stay with the child for the program.

This program is designed for children 3-5 years of age. Come join us for stories, crafts, and other fun learning activities.
We will have a surprise visit from the Cat in the Hat and a party to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday.

Come join us for books, crafts and other activities that build early literacy skills and a love of reading! 

Story Time will not take place on days that the Garrett County School system closes due to inclement weather. In the event of a delay in the school system, Story Time will take place as usual.

The Teen Book Club meets on the first Wednesday of each month.  Newcomers are welcomeThe book for Mar. is Premeditated by Josin Mcquein. Participants will enjoy pizza and drink along with getting a free copy of the book. 

The Accident Teen Book Club is open to 12-18 year olds. We meet the first Weds. of each month (Sept-May) from 5:30-6:30PM (unless otherwise noted) at the Accident Library. We enjoy pizza and drinks at each discussion. Participants of the club receive a free copy of the book. You can choose to only register for the books you want to read. For children ages 3-8, a Read Across America event sponsored by the Ruth Enlow Library and the Garrett County Judy Center. Stories, activities, crafts, and snacks based on Dr. Seuss books. HomeSchoolers @ the Library typically meets on the first Friday of the month September- November and January- May. Our volunteer presenters offer a wide variety of enrichment programs for home school children and their families. Pre-registration is required.

Ruth Enlow Library staff will present this month's program on World Currency. Children will use their research skills to discover which country their selected coin or paper currency originated from. They will then find some interesting facts about that country to share with the group.

Story Tails  3:30 PM - 4:30 PM  Children's/Teens

This month we will have MacKenzie here with us for StoryTails: Children Reading to Dogs. This drop-in program is designed to help children develop confidence in reading.  Each child reads to a dog for about 15 minutes with the dog's handler sitting nearby to give reading assistance if necessary.  All dogs are certified by Therapy Dogs International. At the end of the reading session, each child will receive a bookmark with a picture of the dog that they read to.  This program provides a great opportunity for kids who need to work on reading skills and would like the opportunity to read to an animal.

The Grantsville Library will hold StoryTails: Children Reading to Dogs on the first and third Mondays of each month from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

This program is designed to help children develop confidence in reading. Each child reads to a dog for 15 – 20 minutes, with the dog’s handler sitting nearby to give reading assistance if necessary. All dogs are certified by Therapy Dogs International. No registration is required, and parents are asked to remain at the library while their child is reading. The program will not take place on days when the Garrett County schools are closed or dismissed early due to inclement weather.

STEM Kids is a program designed for children ages 6 to13 featuring a variety of activities that focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. STEM Kids programs are typically scheduled on days when school is released early for staff development. Pre-registration is required for this event, as spaces are limited.

STEM Kids programs will be cancelled and not rescheduled on days that Garrett County Public Schools are cancelled or delayed.

Young Readers Book Club is a book discussion group for readers age nine through twelve.  The group meets on the third Tuesday of each month from September through November and January through May.
 
You must be pre-registered to attend this program.
 
Students will be provided with books that they will read and discuss with the group.  They will also enjoy a craft, game, or activity and a snack based upon themes relevant to the particular book selected for the program.  If interested please contact Julie Iden at 301-334-3996 ext. 104.

Our Homeschooler Series typically meets on the third Thursday of the month September- November and January- May. Our volunteer presenters offer a wide variety of enrichment programs for home school children and their families. Pre-registration is required.

The Homeschool Series students, will present Book Talks Thurs. Mar. 17, 2016 from 1-2PM. A chance for your child to gain confidence in public speaking. Have them choose a topic or a book and do an oral presentation about their topic or book. Props such as dioramas, poster board, presentation board, and Powerpoints are all welcome.

Celtic Harp Concert  3:30 PM - 4:30 PM  Adult Services

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day by joining us for a free Celtic Harp Concert with Lynne Barnes-Dale at the Oakland Library. The concert will include a variety of Celtic tunes, selected modern tunes, hand chimes for audience participation, and a piece written by Lynne herself.
