StoryTails  4:30 PM - 6:30 PM  Children Services
Branch: Grantsville 

The Grantsville Library will hold StoryTails: Children Reading to Dogs on the first and third Mondays of each month from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

This program is designed to help children develop confidence in reading. Each child reads to a dog for 15 – 20 minutes, with the dog’s handler sitting nearby to give reading assistance if necessary. All dogs are certified by Therapy Dogs International. No registration is required, and parents are asked to remain at the library while their child is reading. The program will not take place on days when the Garrett County schools are closed or dismissed early due to inclement weather.

The Accident Library will hold Children's Story Time Thursdays Sept-May (with some exceptions) from 11-12 PM. Children's Story Time is open to children ages 3-5. We read a story, make a craft, and do activities. 

If school is cancelled due to weather, then Story Time will be cancelled. If there is a weather delay, Story Time will meet as scheduled.

This month we will have Gipper here with us for StoryTails: Children Reading to Dogs. This drop-in program is designed to help children develop confidence in reading.  Each child reads to a dog for about 15 minutes with the dog's handler sitting nearby to give reading assistance if necessary.  All dogs are certified by Therapy Dogs International. At the end of the reading session, each child will receive a bookmark with a picture of the dog that they read to.  This program provides a great opportunity for kids who need to work on reading skills and would like the opportunity to read to an animal.

HomeSchoolers @ the Library typically meets on the first Friday of the month September- November and January- May. Our volunteer presenters offer a wide variety of enrichment programs for home school children and their families. Pre-registration is required.

Kristen Spiker from the University of Maryland Extension will present this month's "Nutrition Nuggets" program. The program is designed to help youth develop cooking skills, taste new foods, and enjoy a wider variety of healthy foods.

Ruth Enlow Library Celebrates Free Comic Book Day

 

All branches of the Ruth Enlow Library are celebrating Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, May 7, with walk-in activities and free comic books during normal operating hours. Young Readers Book Club is a book discussion group for readers age nine through twelve.  The group meets on the third Tuesday of each month from September through November and January through May.
 
You must be pre-registered to attend this program.
 
Students will be provided with books that they will read and discuss with the group.  They will also enjoy a craft, game, or activity and a snack based upon themes relevant to the particular book selected for the program.  If interested please contact Julie Iden at 301-334-3996 ext. 104.

The Accident Teen Book Club is open to 12-18 year olds. We meet the first Weds. of each month (Sept-May) from 5:30-6:30PM (unless otherwise noted) at the Accident Library. The Library and the Case of the Seed Bombs  10:30 AM - 12:30 PM  Children's/Teens

A program for kids (18 & under)on Sat. May 21, 2016 from  10:30-12:30PM. The program is called “The Library and the Case of the Seed Bombs”. From 10:30-11:30 AM we will participate in National Read-a-thon day by hosting our own read-a-thon. Please bring a blanket or lawn chair to soak up the nice weather on the lawn (weather permitting) or a pillow to sit on inside. From 11:30-12:30PM we will have the kids make and “plant” wildflower seed bombs in a designated area. If the weather is nice this will be set up outside. If it rains we will still make the seed bombs inside and they can be “planted” in passing on your way to the car. No registration required.
