Book Discussion Group

We are hosting a discussion of The Train to Crystal City: FDR's secret prisoner exchange program and America's only family internment camp during World War II
by Jan Jarboe Russell. Beth Luers, recently retired Professor of Humanities at
Garrett College, will lead the discussion. Also present will be special
guests Donna Lorenz Miller, a resident of Garrett County for 20 years,
and her mother Helen Abele Lorenz, an American citizen who was interned
in Crystal City from the age of 9 – 11 (1942-45) along with her parents.
In January 1945 they were part of a prisoner exchange and sent to
Germany. At the age of 16, Helen returned to America alone.
