Author Talk with Writer Kerry George  6:00 PM - 8:00 PM  Adult Services
Branch: Oakland 6 North Second Street
Kerry George, author of Black Damp Century, will speak and sign books at the Oakland Library, sponsored by the Friends of the Ruth Enlow Library. His book tells the story of miners in the 20th century - their story of strife, loyalty, and fury - through the eyes of two fictional families. Kerry is a retired Federal Coal Mine Inspector and a graduate of Ohio University. He conducted some of his research using resources from the Ruth Enlow Library.

Kids' Book Club  4:00 PM - 5:00 PM  Children Services
Branch: Oakland Meeting Room
Kids Book Club is a book discussion group for children ages six through eight.  Programs are held on the fourth Tuesday of every month from September through November and January through May.
 
You must be pre-registered to attend this program.
 
Students will be provided with books that they will read and discuss with the group.  They will also enjoy a craft or other fun activity and have a snack based on the themes relevant to the book selection for that month.  If interested please contact Deb Spurrier at 301-334-3996 ext. 104.

STEM Kids - Angry Bird Mania  1:00 PM - 3:00 PM  Children Services

What could be cooler than Angry Birds? The Angry Birds app is all the rage and we will be using some of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) principles of the game to exercise kids' minds!
 
STEM Kids is a drop-in program for grades K-5th on days when school is released early for staff development.
