The Ruth Enlow Library invites the community to celebrate Read Across America and the birthday of Dr. Seuss in March. Read Across America, an initiative of the National Education Association (NEA), is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on, or near, March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss, and throughout the month of March.
The local libraries are celebrating with several events, and each child attending will receive a free book, with funding provided by the Garrett County Education Association.
The Oakland Library, in partnership with the Garrett County Judy Center, will host a Dr. Seuss Party on Wednesday, March 1 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. for children ages 3 – 8 years. The event will feature stories, activities, crafts, and snacks based on Dr. Seuss books.
The Accident Library will celebrate with a walk-in program of games, activities, and crafts from Monday, February 27 – Saturday, March 4 during regular operating hours. Also, the Dr. Seuss theme will be integrated into Teen Book Club, Children’s Story Time, and StoryTails scheduled for that week. The Grantsville Library will celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday at its regular Story Time on Wednesday, March 1, from 11 a.m. – noon, and also during the week with a walk-in program of coloring pages, easy crafts, and take-home activities. Kitzmiller Library’s celebration will feature a Dr. Seuss birthday party, complete with stories, fun activities, and free giveaways, March 1 from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m., for all ages.
