The View from Grandmother's Porch
The Friendsville Library Quilters have completed their 10th quilt titled "The View from Grandmother's Porch." It is full size, all hand embroidered, tied, and quilted, in an original design inspired by an early 20th century crazy patch quilt made by Mary Frazee's grandmother about 80 years ago, which Frazee shared with the group.
“This quilt honors our grandmothers and thanks them for all that they taught us,” notes the Library Quilters. “In particular, we are grateful for the example they set of us of patience and kindness, and for the love they showed us through the work of their fingers. We remember our best dresses embroidered with love, baby quilts and coverlets pieced and quilted. We are grateful for their patience in teaching us to sew, embroider, crochet or knit, even to darn socks. They taught us to be exacting in our work, to rip out crooked seams and sew them again with greater care. They taught us to save pieces and create beauty from leftovers. They taught us to share what we have and what we create with those who have not. We have been blessed by their example.”
