International Book Giving Day
Internatioal Book Giving Day

February 14th is not only Valentine’s Day. It also is International Book Giving Day - a day dedicated to getting new, used, and borrowed books in the hands of as many children as possible. In celebration of this event, the Oakland Library invites its young patrons to visit anytime between 9:15 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Friday, February 14th to select a free book and bookmark, and share why they love visiting the library with Julie Iden, Oakland’s new Children’s Specialist.

“By taking time to read to your child every day, you are teaching your child that reading is important,” notes Iden. “Books provide knowledge, and knowledge is power.”

The website for International Book Giving Day at http://bookgivingday.com/ lists a number of ideas for how individuals can celebrate this day and share books with youngsters.
