11th Annual Quilt Raffle to Benefit the Friendsville Library
The Amazing Log Cabin Quilt

The Friendsville Library Quilters have completed their 11th quilt titled "The Amazing Log Cabin Quilt," 60 x 72 inches in size (twin-full) and hand-quilted.

“This quilt has been accumulating its own story ever since it was begun,” noted the quilters. “Three of us chose the fabric for it with amazing unanimity of opinion, and four of us cut it and stitched it together with only minor problems, most of our own making. Seven of us quilted and finished it in record time. What a wonderfully easy quilt, we thought. Then we took the quilt up to the office of one of our group to await her return to put on the binding, and the quilt began its own series of amazing adventures. It was thrown into the trash by an overzealous cleaning woman and made its way to the landfill, from whence it was rescued and given its first bath. It survived that and being put on a towel that bled blue dye before it ever received its binding. Now it is yours (if you win the raffle). Will it continue its adventures with you? We think this quilt will have an interesting life.”

The quilt will be on display at the Friendsville Library, which is open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2 - 8 p.m., on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 - 5:30 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.  The quilt also will be displayed at the Heritage Quilt Show during the Autumn Glory Festival in October.

Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5, and all proceeds benefit the library. Tickets will be available mid-June from the quilters, local Friendsville merchants, and End of the Line Bookstore in Oakland. Tickets are not available at the library. The winning raffle ticket will be drawn at noon on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at the Friendsville Library.
