Well, our new Strategic Plan, created with your help, has been completed! You can access it here [1]– as you can see, we have a lot of exciting projects to pursue over the next few years!
I was struck by a recent news article, which can be found here [2]. It talks about the need for civility in society, and the role libraries play as a social space. It’s always good to be reminded of what we can do to help others, and it’s a role we’re glad to be able to play. Now that we’re a “Choose Civility” affiliate, we will in the future be providing additional opportunities for people to discuss issues civilly – as you can see, it’s one of our goals for the future!
I’d also like to take a second to highlight a couple of great online resources, which I will try to do in this blog going forward. First off is Project Gutenberg, [3] a free repository of public domain ebooks in multiple formats for those of you who want to catch up on the classics. Its equivalent for audiobooks is LibriVox [4], which puts up free downloadable audio files. LibriVox works on a volunteer basis, so the quality can vary widely, but that also means that if you have a book you like, time to read it aloud, and are confident in your voicework, you can post something as well!
