Welcome to our new website – and a huge thank you to the folks at the Western Maryland Regional Library for the upgrade! We hope these changes will help you better discover our great events and new resources – explore for yourself, and we’re always looking for feedback!

And best of all, it’s just in time for the Summer Reading Club – this year, we want everyone to “Color Our World” with the stories you can discover at any of our libraries – and we’ve got some wonderful events for the whole family planned! We’re kicking things off with “The Adventure of the Missing Color” a show by Science Heroes – and we’ve got programs on making fairy frog gardens, popsicles, birds, watercolors, acting, Celtic harp, bugs and much more – we’re very excited to be able to bring you such a great slate of events. You can sign up at http://www.relib.net/src and keep the reading and learning going all summer long!

And there’s more – we’re also this summer introducing our new Library Academy program series for teens and adults – we want to help folks build some of the important skills they need to know to be effective adults in the 21st century – things like cooking, keyboarding, reading maps, etiquette and more. These classes will be held monthly and, like everything else in the Library, will be free – we’re here to help our community grow!

Speaking of helping things grow, the Accident Library, in partnership with University of Maryland Extension, is launching a new project with a selection of garden tools you can check out to prep your plot at home. From hand tillers to hoes, we’ve got you covered – stop by the Accident branch and see our selection, and pick up a book on gardening at the same time to discover some new layouts and techniques.

We’re also proud to announce a new book club – “Guys Readin’ Stuff.” Meeting the first Wednesday of each month, this book club is for guys aged 12-99 (though we won’t turn down any 100+ year olds!) and encourages them to hang out and share the cool things they’ve been reading lately and discover new materials – reading is for everyone, after all!

Our Friendsville Library continues to make progress – and thanks to the great folks at Friendsville Days, we’re going to be celebrating that progress (and raising some funding for the project at the same time) with a Color Run on the Sunday of Friendsville Days weekend (August 17) at 1:00 PM. Join us that day and get colorful for a good cause!

And finally, I’m proud to once again remind everyone that as of July 1, the Library will be going fine-free, with late fees a thing of the past. Replacement fees will still be charged on all items over 30 days late, but once those items are returned, those fees vanish – we want to streamline the process as much as possible and remove any obstacles for our readers.

Have a wonderful summer, everyone – we hope to see you soon!
