Preview for 2022

On behalf of everyone here at the Ruth Enlow Library of Garrett County, I wanted to be sure to wish everyone a Happy Holidays – we hope your year ends with family, health, and a good book or two!

We appreciate all of the patience our patrons have shown with the mask requirement and hope our numbers in Garrett County decline soon so we can remove it.  We also hope that the test kits are helping in the community, and greatly appreciate our partnership with the Health Department to help provide them to the people that need them.

We’re looking forward to some exciting developments in 2022.  The big news is that our Friendsville Library will be doubling in size – the Town of Friendsville will be moving its office in the next month and have very kindly agreed to let us use the other half of the building – we will be reaching out to the community soon to ask what our Friendsville patrons would like to see in an expanded Children’s area that would make it a great place to be after school.

Thanks to our amazing Friends of the Library, we’re planning a great Summer Reading Club based around 2022’s theme, “Oceans of Possibilities.”  We’ll have aquatic events, crafts and prizes to reward our readers, and we’re looking forward to running with a very fun and interesting theme!

With a new year, we also have a new Reading Challenge for you all to enjoy!  Sign up today and pick up your list – we have 35 categories for readers to tackle for prizes.  We’ve also added a Bonus Challenge this year – lucky readers could get their book reviews included in our submissions to the Garrett County Republican for publication!

Finally, we’re adding a new feature to the Library in January – “Classics” buttons.  We’re making collectible buttons from the covers of works of classic literature – if you check out and read one on our list, we’ll give you the button to keep.  With over 50 books in our initial list, we bet you’ll find something you’ll really enjoy, or reread an old favorite.  And who knows, maybe we’ll add prizes for our biggest collectors…

Hope you all have a happy New Year, and see you soon at the Library!
