On February 27th, the Ruth Enlow Library will host the second in a series of "Choose Civility" discussions. Community members are invited to share their responses to the question "What is Garrett County?" in a respectful, nonpartisan atmosphere.

Questions will include "Why do you live here? What makes it difficult? Are there 'real'  Garrett County people? What are the big divides in this area?"

The discussion series, which will include talks once a month through June, is part of the Choose Civility initiative. Developed by the Howard County Library System, and supported by a grant from the Library Services and Technology Act, Choose Civility is a nationwide program that tries to bring out the best in people by encouraging understanding, kindness and constructive conversations. The Ruth Enlow Library became a Choose Civility affiliate in 2018.

In addition to the monthly discussions at the Oakland library, all branches will distribute selected books to people throughout the community. The list of free books for distribution includes "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie and "Choosing Civility: The Twenty-Five Rules of Considerate Conduct" by P.M. Forni.

Partners interested in hearing more about the Choose Civility program are encouraged to call Library Director Thomas Vose at 301-334-3996
