About Hannah Smith:
Hi, I’m Hannah! After years of fighting a mystery illness, I was diagnosed with celiac disease when I was just a teenager. Both of my parents are retired educators and always put a strong emphasis on reading and learning. When both worlds clashed, I came up with the idea of The Silly Yak Who Had Celiac in 2020 and published my first book. Since then, in March of 2023, I published Bev The Bird and There's A Horse Yanking My Chain. My newest book, Quack, Quack, Celiac! came out in August of 2023. I am so proud of these books and am working on a few more.
On numerous occasions, I've been on Capitol Hill to speak with lawmakers about creating safer food regulations for the food allergy and celiac communities. I am an advocate for these communities. I’ve been featured in Allergic Living Magazine and on The Celiac Project Podcast. In 2019, I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park. In my free time, I enjoy building and donating Little Free Libraries & food pantries for parts of Western Maryland and rural Appalachia. As the founder of The Western Maryland Literacy Initiative, I am beyond honored to share new and used books with schools, libraries, hospitals, and nonprofit organizations.
